Santra barfi

It is basically barfi (fudge) made with orange pulp and flavour into a condensed form. It is available in most of the sweet shops in Nagpur. Also known as Orange Barfi, it is creamy, tangy and sweet.

Patodi rassa

Patodi Rassa is a popular breakfast and lunch item in Nagpur. One can try it at most of the local eateries and local food stalls across the city. Patodi Rassa is made from besan (gram flour) and has a delicious hot and tangy red curry element prepared with a variety of spices. It is generally eaten with roti or bhakri.

Saoji Deli

Saoji food is very spicy and mostly non-vegetarian. The unique taste of Saoji dishes comes from special spices used in the food. Saoji cuisine offers delectable goat meat, chicken, prawns, fish and egg curries served with hot puffed up rotis (bread) and boiled rice. These dishes are usually prepared by people of the Halba Koshti community.

Pitla bhakri is a rural dish of Nagpur and is mainly popular among farmers and folk. It is a typical Maharashtrian dish. It is prepared from powdered Dal forming a pasty dish which is Pitla. Pitla is mainly served with a special bread made from either Jowar or Bajra flour and is called Bhakri.

Special Dishes

Sandge

Sandage is a mixture of various pulses like urad, masoor, tur, chana and moong. It is soaked and ground to a batter with chilli powder, hing (asafetida) and cumin. Small balls or chips are made from this batter and laid out in the sun to dry. They are then cooked in masala with brinjal, onion, daal or fish.

Sheermal and Rott

Hafeez bakery has been in service since the last 20 century, and it has served a large generation of people with its delicious biscuits, bread and other baked items. Sheermal is a saffron coloured bread whereas rott is nothing but a large biscuit. It is enjoyed by both young and old alike and is a very popular street food in Nagpur.

Patodi and kadhi

A trip to Nagpur is incomplete with tasting its Maharashtrian dishes like bhakar, patodi etc. Patodi and kadhi is a widely popular Maharashtrian Besan curry. This curry is served in a spicy gravy and is eaten with roti or bhakri. It is a must try Maharashtrian dish which offers you the true taste of Nagpur with its assortment of spices.

Jalebi

Jalebi is a sweet delicacy which is a very popular dessert. This hot and sweet savoury is enjoyed by all alike. It is prepared by making a fermented batter which is dipped in a sugary syrup and is a sticky and spiral dessert which rules the heart of many.
