Akola is a district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The city of Akola is the district headquarters. Akola district forms the central part of Amravati Division, which was the former British Raj Berar Province. Area of the district is 5,428 km². It is bounded on the north and east by Amravati District, to the south by Washim District, and to the west by Buldhana District. Washim was earlier a part of Akola till 1999. Akola district includes seven talukas which are Akola, Akot, Telhara, Balapur, Barshitakli, Murtijapur and Patur. ...The Battle of Adgaon Bk village is located in Telhara Tehsil, took place on 28 November 1803, between the British under the command of Governor Arthur Wellesley and the forces of Maratha under Bhonsle of Nagpur during Second Anglo-Maratha War. The Purna River forms the part of north boundary of the district, and the top north portion of the district lies within its watershed along with Aas River and Shahnur River. The Vaan River forms the part of northwest boundary of the district after entering from the Amravati district. The Mun River drains the southwestern portion of the district, Morna River drains the midsouth portion of the district, while the southeast is drained by the Katepurna River and Uma River. Narnala, also known as “Shahnur Fort”, is a hill fortress in Maharashtra, India, named after the Rajput Ruler Narnala Singh. The name Narnala was given after the Rajput Ruler Narnal Singh or Narnal Swami. The fort was built in 10 A.D. by Gond Kings. In 15th Century Mughals have occupied and rebuild the fort and hence it has been called Shahnoor Fort. Narnala was one of the thirteen sarkar of Berar Subah.
Narnala consists of three small forts named Zafarabad fort (or Jafarabad) on the east, Narnala in the centre and Teliagarh on the west. It is a historical place since the Khilji Dynasty, and it was one of the Sarkar Subah Berar in the medieval period. The fort is known for the great Muslim saint Hazrat Burhanuddin “BAGH SAWAR WALI” and it is said that many white tigers were seen with the hazrat at that time. ADLI BEG or ATALU BEG erected many Arabic Scripts and the “TUP” named “KADAK BIJLI”. It is also the birthplace of Aurangzeb’s great grand son. Sardar Beg Mirza and Qader Beg Mirza were the hereditary descendant of Mughal Dynasty in the 18th century.They to stay near Argaon 9 km away from Hiwarkhed because Shah Beg Subedar of Berar was holding the fort. It is located in the Akot Taluka,Akola District, Berar (also called Amravati Division)at coordinates of 21o 15′ N and 77o 4′ E. The closest city is Akot which is 18 km away. It is at the southern most tip of the Satpura Hills at an elevation of 3161 feet(912 m) above sea level.[1]Currently, this area falls within the Melghat Tiger Reserve.

The land vegetation at Katepurna Sanctuary is southern tropical dry deciduous forest. There are over 115 species of plants at this sanctuary such as Bahada, Dhawada, Moha, Tendu, Khair, Salai, Aola, Teude, etc. Katepurna Wildlife Sanctuary is renowned for the four-horned antelope and barking deer. Other animals that you can see at the sanctuary include black buck, leopard, wolf, wild boar, hyena, hare, nilgai, jungle cat and monkey. Among the birds, Peafowl is the common bird spotted by tourists. You can also view several species of common grassland and wetland birds here. The Katepurna water reservoir attracts many water birds. You can reach Katepurna Sanctuary comfortably by air, rail, and road.
The closest airport is the Sonegaon Airport, located 292 km away. The Akola Junction Railway Station, situated 40 km away on the Mumbai-Nagpur rail route, is the closest railhead. Akola is well-connected by an extensive network of roads to all the major towns of Maharashtra. During your visit to the Katepurna Sanctuary in you can enjoy a comfortable stay at the various hotels in Akola. However, there is no accommodation facility near the sanctuary. The sanctuary should be ideally visited between the months of October and June.

The Salasar Temple was established in the year 2014 in Ganga Nagar Akola. Here are the idols of Shri Hanumanji, Shri Ram Darbar, Shri Radhakrishna and Shri Shiv Parivar. The temple complex is 2 lakh sq ft and has a garden in it.

Balapur Fort, a ruined Mughal fortress is famous for its chhatri and the mausoleum constructed by Mirza Raja Jaysing that has an area of 25 square feet and a height of 33 feet. The fortress' foundations were majorly damaged in a flood called the 'dhvdya pur' that occurred more than 100 years ago, though, after some years the damage was repaired.
